One Direction’s Made In The A.M. Album Review

Misha Ishtiaq

November is finally here and so is One Direction’s fifth studio album Made In The A.M. This is the band’s first album without Zayn Malik and many people had been speculating that this album would be a huge disappointment. However, those people have been proven wrong by the album's chart-topping singles, amazing music videos and extremely high sales. Made In The A.M. turned out to be the game changer for One Direction. After the release of the album, the whole world knows that One Direction is better than ever.

The album kicks off with the single “Drag Me Down” which has debuted at number three on the Billboard Top 100 chart. The song's music video became the most liked music video in 24 hours. “Drag Me Down” is the band’s first single without Zayn Malik, and because of it’s catchy tune and inspirational lyrics, it is now regarded as one of One Direction’s best songs. Next up in the album is another amazing single “Perfect”, which debuted at number 10 on Billboard charts. This broke The Beatles’ record for the most Top 10 Hot 100 debuts among bands. Harry Styles described this song as “a spontaneous love song”, which it definitely is. “Perfect” is an obvious declaration of One Direction’s evolution since their previous songs, which have been about being the the perfect guy, but this one is different, and talks about the compromises and flaws in love. The third single in the album is the soulful song “Infinity”. It has heartwarming lyrics like “Oh baby I was there for you, all I ever wanted was the truth” and the song surely elevated all expectations levels from the album.

Since it’s release Made In The A.M. has had very positive reviews from critics. Although this is the band’s first album to not top the charts, it has got higher first week sales than their previous album Four, topping the first week sales of 387,000 with new total of 459,000.

Made In The A.M. is the band’s last album before they go on a one year long break. The band has already received an American Music Award for “Artist of the Year” after the release of the album. I can certainly say that people can expect a lot more similarly outstanding work from the band. Being a Directioner and a person who appreciates good music, I will give this album 4.5/5 stars.
