More 640 Ontario Schools and Daycares Fail Lead Tests Including WOSS

More than 640 Ontario schools have failed lead tests for drinking water implemented by municipal health facilities. The shocking data debunked Ontario’s reputation for being one of the North American leaders in ensuring the drinking water quality for children. Interpreted from the provincial testings in 2016, White Oaks Secondary School is among one of the schools that have exceeded the lead limit made under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)
Woss’ We Activists Raise Over $700 for Rohingya Crisis at the Annual Coffee House

Woss had their 7th annual Coffee House on December 6th, 2017. The event is held every year in the North Cafeteria by We Activists, a non-profit club at WOSS that holds events to raise money for local and global foundations and charities. Locals citizens, as well as the families of students at WOSS, joined together to watch live performances from students, drink coffee, and raise money to support the Rohingya crisis

Pink. Well, we all know it’s a colour but from October 1st to October 31st at White Oaks, it meant so much more. This year we celebrated national breast cancer awareness month with huge success. Every student that wore pink showed that they supported a cause bigger than the colour, breast cancer.
Venture into Art: A New Campaign at WOSS

Three students at WOSS have taken it upon themselves to help youth artists in the community attain a foothold in the business world this fall. Grade 11 Students Sonya Zhang, Jacqueline Shi and Abi Sudharshan created the campaign “Venture Into Art” as a part of their DECA project with hopes to mobilize artistic individuals in our local community, having them realize the potential of entrepreneurship as a legitimate career and source of income as both a teen and an adult. Taken that youth entrepreneurs are currently in deficit; the campaign was practical as it sought to harvest a surplus of perhaps undiscovered talent and skill.

The end of summer signifies the beginning of school, and likewise Fall Finale signifies the beginning of winter. The school hosted a celebration of Fall on the 24th of November, it was filled with music, beaver tails and the biting chill of winter as it begins to take hold.

There are many options when it comes to deciding what club you want to join in your four years at WOSS. However all of the clubs at White Oaks have had plenty of time to establish themselves, and create an image that they want to present to the students of WOSS, appealing to certain audiences and such making finding something different a challenge. Excitingly in the past few years a change has occurred, and that change is the introduction of the White Oaks Ultimate Frisbee Team.

The first semester of the 2015-2016 school year has been a spectacular one for the music department at White Oaks . Thanks to the efforts of our extremely proactive Student Council, Students returned to newly painted and refurbished music rooms. All ensembles and groups, thanks to their wonderful conductors, Mr. Gassi and Mr. Fraser, were promptly running with renewed vigour. In late September, the concert band and concert choir went collectively on a retreat to Ancaster, where bonding activities and rehearsals were enjoyed by all in attendance. The point of this outing was to prepare for the busy semester that awaited them.
A Night at the Fringe

It was a night of comedy, epic dramas, and marvellous mysteries; this was one amazing night at the WOSS Fringe Festival. In room T106 on both the 29th and 30th of October, WOSS held its annual Fringe Festival, with many students, acting, directing, and writing plays, all of which were performed over those two nights.

White Oaks Secondary School will once again be hosting the craft event of the school year: inviting local artists to sell their stunning and unique crafts to all those who enjoy art.
The Craft Stock event will take place on November 7th, 2015 from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm at White Oaks Secondary School (1330 Montclair Drive, Oakville).
