Venture into Art: A New Campaign at WOSS

By Abi Sudharshan

Three students at WOSS have taken it upon themselves to help youth artists in the community attain a foothold in the business world this fall. Grade 11 Students Sonya Zhang, Jacqueline Shi and Abi Sudharshan created the campaign “Venture Into Art” as a part of their DECA project with hopes to mobilize artistic individuals in our local community, having them realize the potential of entrepreneurship as a legitimate career and source of income as both a teen and an adult. Taken that youth entrepreneurs are currently in deficit; the campaign was practical as it sought to harvest a surplus of perhaps undiscovered talent and skill. These students deserve and could greatly benefit from resources and opportunities to monetize their abilities for both personal and scholarly expenditure and thus the aim of the campaign was to do just this. It sought to accommodate the lack of entrepreneurial courses students need to expose themselves to the mechanics of running a business, allowing them to learn new skills that will definitely be applicable in their futures.

These students primary tools’ comprised of sharing useful information of social media, hosting workshops and conversing with interested individuals. Their impact is most palpably seen with the creation of four new businesses by individuals who received mentorship from the team.

If any of our readers have an interest in pursuing such a venture, do not hesitate contact our editorial team at word2thewoss@gmail.com and we will connect with the Venture Into Art team.

After all, in an ever innovative and solution- needy world, the knowledge of how to market and monetize one’s skills is always an asset.
