Demi Lovato’s Confident Album Review

October 30th 2015  - Misha Ishtiaq

Calling out to all Lovatics. Yes it’s here, Demi Lovato’s fifth studio album Confident. After two years of long waiting, she is back and describes Confident as “very authentic to who I am”, and tells fans that, “The sound just evolves into everything that I have been and everything that I want to become.” In an interview she also says that this album is very personal to her. Demi has been in this industry for along time, and has learned from experience that sometimes you need to start a new phase in life, move on, and be proud of who you are, which is what Confident is all about.

The album’s first single “Cool for the Summer”, was a huge success, reaching number 11 on Billboard charts. Beware, “Cool for the Summer” is the type of song that gets stuck in your head, and you need to keep listening to 24/7 on repeat. Following “Cool for the Summer” is another huge single, “Confident”, which reached number 10 on billboard charts. “Confident” is a very upbeat song that never fails to get one moving. This perhaps, is the heart of the album.

The first song from the album “Old ways”, is a very motivational one, all about moving on, with lyrics like, “But if somebody tells me, I’ll go back to my old ways, I’m going to say no way, I’m out of the doorway”. Demi also collaborated with her close friend, Iggy Azalea, in the the very empowering song “Kingdom Come”. Another song from the album “Waitin for You”, sends out the message of being strong. But even though the song is really good, Sirah’s rap makes it rather blunt. “Lion heart” is also a very soulful song about conquering your fears and being brave. Demi ends the album with a very personal song “Father”, which is about her abusive dad who died in 2013.

Other tracks in the album are “For you”, “Stone cold”, “Wildfire”, “Yes”, “Stars” and “Mr. Hughes”.

Since its release on October 16, 2015, Demi’s new album, Confident, has sold 95,000 copies. Although the number is not low, these are the lowest first week sales Demi has ever gotten. Even though the album has quite a few good songs, it lacks the true Demi Lovato touch. A bit disappointing comparing this to other albums she has recorded, but I recommend giving this a try anyway.

Album Rating: 3.5/5
