Philadelphia Eagles Win Super Bowl For First Time In History

By: Alexa Ford

The Philadelphia Eagles won their first super bowl Sunday, February 4th versus the New England Patriots at the U.S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Eagles won the game with an impressive score of 41 compared to the Patriots, with 33 points.

The game was an exciting back and forth between both teams and their leaders. Tom Brady, who has won 3 league MVP awards, 5 super bowls, and 4 super bowl MVP awards were outshined by the backup quarterback Nick Foles from the Eagles. Throughout the game, Foles consistently made the right calls and executed beautiful plays that lead the team to victory. For example, in the first quarter Foles threw a long shot and against the odds, Eric Rowe ran 34 yards towards the end zone jumped, caught and was taken down with the ball. After revision, the referees declared the play was good and the team scored their first touchdown of the evening. Bringing the score at the end of the quarter to 9-3 for the Eagles.

This game was historical in more ways than one. First, both teams combined ran over 1151 offensive yards, more than any other super bowl in history. And, this year was the first time in the NFL franchise history that the Eagles won a super bowl.

There are many important people to thank for the Eagles success this year. First, their coach Doug Pederson, a former super bowl winner himself made an excellent game plan which itself made history on Sunday. A perfect example would be the trick play at the end of the first half when Trey Burton threw a 1-yard touchdown to quarterback Nick Foles. Another key player in this game was underdog Nick Foles, he only started 3 games in the regular season this year but he made amazing calls and played an excellent game and stole the title.

After this astonishing win, the cameras were watching the streets of Philadelphia very closely. The streets were filled with optimistic fans and when the team had officially won the game the crowd went wild. Once the team returned to their hometown they had their first super bowl parade. It was hard not to notice the huge smiles on all the players, and fans face as the team's bus drove all around the city meeting fans and making speeches, ultimately ending up at the Philadelphia Museum of Art more famously known as the “Rocky” staircase. A perfect journey’s end for the underdog team. Congratulations Eagles.
